Good morning Year 2!
Did you have a good weekend? Koala has been exploring my flat! Yesterday I found him climbing up the bookshelf!
Below is everything you need for your learning today.
Literacy
Today, you are writing a letter to apply for a job as a knight.
Maths
Find today’s maths sheet and get ready with a pencil. The video will tell you when to answer the questions on the sheet. To find the video, you need to go to this website:

RE with Trevor Week 4
Here is this week’s RE video from Trevor. Remember to keep commenting with your answers to the questions and your prayers.
- Who was Saul?
- Where was he going when he met Jesus? Why was he going there?
- What happened to Saul whilst he was on his journey?
- How did Ananias feel when God told him to go and speak to Saul?
- What was Saul’s new name? Do you recognise it? What do you already know about him?
Year 2 Friday 15th May
Good morning Year 2!
It’s Friday! I hope you’ve had a good week. A real highlight for me was listening to all your wonderful writing. You are all superstars.
Here is your learning for today.
Literacy
Today you are going to be writing a dragon poem.
Instructions are here: Literacy Friday 15th May
Maths
Maths will look a bit different today as you will be solving problems. The sheet has problems for ALL children in primary school, so of course some of them will be quite tricky for Year 2! I would like you all please to try questions 1, 2 and 3. The other questions are for older children but if you’d like to try them, then do have a go. If you have older brothers or sisters, perhaps you could try them all together.
Everything else you need for today is in your home learning packs.
It would be great to do some singing today, like we do in school on Fridays.
Here is the music link from the topic grid for this week (w/b 11th May).
Music: Songs to Learn – Look at Week 5, Monday for a song you might recognise.
Also remember to have a look at the RE Lessons blog today if you haven’t already done that this week.

Year 2 Thursday 14th May
Good morning Year 2!
Yesterday I went to school and noticed that Koala was feeling a bit lonely in the book corner so I brought him home with me. He’s now sitting on our computer, keeping my husband and I company whilst we work!
Below is everything you need for your learning today.
Literacy
Yesterday, we finished our Dragon Machine lessons. I know you all worked really hard and did some amazing writing. We’ll keep going with our Castles and Knights topic – I have some more great writing tasks for you. Click on the link below for today’s lesson.
You’ll also need this link.
Maths
Today’s lesson is all about measuring with a metre stick. Don’t worry, I don’t expect any of you to have a metre stick at home! However, some of you might have a measuring tape that is 1m so you could use that or you could make a metre stick using things you have at home. If you don’t have one and can’t make one, then don’t worry. It just means that you won’t be able to do questions 1c, 1d or 4 – you can still do all of the other questions!
Now find today’s maths sheet and get ready with a pencil. The video will tell you when to answer the questions on the sheet. To find the video, you need to go to this website:
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/
When you are there, you need to click on Summer Term – Week 1 (w/c 20th April), Lesson 4 – Measure length (m). It looks like this:

CHOIR please check the choir blog for details of our first very exciting choir project!
VERY exciting project #1
Hello again Choir 🙂
It was so lovely to hear from lots of you on my last blog post. I’m really glad I’m now able to share with you our first choir project.
Have any of you seen any virtual choirs recently? Quite a few have taken place during lock down. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FpPgQiSNrk (you might spot a familiar face!).
Because we can’t make music together in person, virtual choirs allow us to still sing together without leaving our own homes.
Now, what I hadn’t told you before school closed is that in June we were planning to take you (the choir) to the Tower of London to perform in a music festival there. Very sadly, that had to be cancelled BUT the good news is that the organisers have instead invited us to be part of a virtual choir. How exciting is that?!
Everything you need to take part is HERE.
When you click on that link you will find a song to learn, instructions on how to record yourself singing the song and a link to upload your video so that the festival organisers can include it in the big video.
Here’s a few things to note:
- You will need an adult to help you do this.
- You need to learn the song yourself as, sadly, we can’t have a rehearsal altogether for Jamie and I to teach it to you. The video is clear so listen to it lots and sing along. Don’t try and record yourself until you are sure that you can sing the song as best you can! I expect it will take at least a few days of practising – I’m not expecting anyone to film their video tomorrow!
- IMPORTANT: By uploading your video, your parent/carer is giving permission for it to be part of the final video which will be put on the internet. If you don’t want your face to be in the video, you can just make an audio recording.
- The instructions say that school uniform is optional. I think it would be nice if you all do wear your school uniform when you film your video – we are very proud to be part of All Souls!
The instructions on the link are very clear, but if you do have any questions then just write me a message here.
The deadline is Monday 8th June at midday. Ask a grown up to put the date in their diary now so you don’t forget! It can take a while for the video to upload, too, so don’t leave it to the last minute.
Have fun everyone and let us know how you get on!
Love from Mrs Legg and Jamie
Year 2 Wednesday 13th May
Good morning Year 2!
Yesterday I got to speak to the rest of you on the phone and hear you read your lovely writing. I am so proud of you all. You are working really hard at home and doing some amazing things. Well done!
Below are the videos you need for your learning today.
Literacy
This is Session 10, our last video Literacy lesson!
Today’s lesson is about finishing your story. I know that some of you wrote all of your story yesterday. If you did, use the time today to extend it. For example, if you only wrote one sentence about your character building their machine, you could try turning that part of the story into a paragraph (a group of sentences).
Maths
Today we are starting some lessons about measuring. If you have a ruler at home, you will need to use it today. If you don’t have a ruler, here are some ideas:
- See if you can find anything else at home with centimetres marked on it, for example a measuring tape.
- Print this paper ruler: Ruler
- Leave the questions on your sheet that need a ruler, and instead do some measuring practice here: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/measuring-in-cm
Now find today’s maths sheet and get ready with a pencil. The video will tell you when to answer the questions on the sheet. To find the video, you need to go to this website:

When you are there, you need to click on Summer Term – Week 1 (w/c 20th April), Lesson 3 – Measure length (cm). It looks like this:

Year 2 Tuesday 12th May
Good morning Year 2!
I had such a lovely time yesterday ringing some of you and listening to you read your writing to me on the phone. I had a big smile on my face all afternoon! I’m really looking forward to hearing more of you read your writing to me today. Remember, choose something you’re really proud of and have it ready to read to me.
Below are the videos you need for your learning today.
Literacy
This is Session 9. Get your writing book ready, write today’s date, and then press play. The video will tell you what to do.
Maths
This are our last lesson on fractions. We are going to be learning to count in fractions. It gets tricky, so switch your Maths brains on and get ready to think hard!
