Week 6 – Creativity
Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is keeping well. It was lovely to see so many of you when I delivered the home learning packs last week. I do miss all your smiley faces.
This week we are going to be thinking about CREATIVITY. I know creativity isn’t one of our core values, but it is still an important value to have and you all have such a creativity spirit inside of you.
There are two creativity tasks for you this week and they are both competitions!
The first one is set by John Lewis. They would like you to design a “super-bear” cuddly toy that celebrates the spirit and fortitude of the fearless men and women working on the frontline during the Covid-19 crisis. The winning design will be turned into an exclusive Christmas toy and sold by Waitrose and John Lewis from October. For further details on how to enter please go to the John Lewis website. Money raised from selling the bear will go towards help the NHS. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to have your winning design turned into a teddy bear that would be on the shelves in time for Christmas as well as raising money for such a good cause!
The second competition is to design a banner to thank the NHS and other key workers. The five winning designs will be made into actual banners that can be displayed outside of our school. Please draw your designs on A4 paper (landscape) and send of photograph of your entry along with your full name, age, school and place where you live to hello@fsedesign.co.uk. The closing date is 5pm on Friday 8th May.
Have a wonderful creative week. Don’t forget to email photographs of your designs to school too so we can see all the amazing things you have been doing. photos@allsoulsprimary.co.uk.
Stay safe and well.
Sending lots of love,
Miss Ascough

Year 2 Wednesday 29th April
Good morning Year 2!
How are you today? I enjoyed speaking to some of you yesterday. I’ll be ringing some more of you today and some more of you tomorrow so, if I haven’t rung you yet, please ask your grown up to keep an eye on their phone!
Here are today’s lessons. Remember, today is Spanish day so keep an eye out for some work from Mr Gonzalo on BusyThings the blog, too.
Literacy
This is Session 3. Get your writing book (from your home learning pack) ready, write today’s date, and then press play. The video will tell you what to do.
Maths
Today we are carrying on thinking about the fraction a half.
Find today’s maths sheet and get ready with a pencil. The video will tell you when to answer the questions on the sheet. To find the video, you need to go to this website:
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/
When you are there, you need to click on Week 1, Lesson 3 – Find a half. It looks like this:
Please ignore the dates on the website as we are not following these.
Everything else you need for today is in your home learning packs.
On the activity grid in the home learning packs (w/b 27th April), I suggested some websites you could use for the activities. I have put links to those websites here as you might find it easier to click than typing in the links. I will re-post these every day so don’t feel you have to click on them all today!
Links to websites suggested in home learning packs:
***Also remember to have a look at the RE Lessons blog one day this week to watch a video from Trevor.
Useful websites:

https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/members-area/kids/guide-to-castles/
https://www.rct.uk/resources/game-bring-on-the-battle-childrens-activity
Optional Extras:
If you would like some extra activities, then I have posted some links below. You can also have a look at BusyThings.
Literacy: Create a Minibeast Fact File
Maths: Comparing Amounts of Money
Science: Introduction to Materials
Have a great day everyone.

Wednesday 29th April
Morning guys,
I enjoyed talking to you this week, its great to hear how you are getting on. These are your activities for today:
PE
https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos
Join Joe every morning at 9:00am for a 30 min workout. If you prefer to do your own workout that is absolutely fine as long as it is safe and energetic.
Literacy
For today’s lesson please read chapter 2 from the link below:
http://www.samizdat.qc.ca/arts/lit/PDFs/LionWitchWardrobe_CSL.pdf
Today you are going to write a paragraph describing and comparing Lucy’s world and Narnia. A really good writing technique to help describe a setting is to use your senses. and write down all the comparisons you can find. Can you sort your ideas into the five senses.
When you have completed all your comparisons you can begin with your paragraph. Here is a a sentence to help get you started:
In Narnia, where it is forever winter, the temperature is always cold. Glistening snow covers the ground and muffles all sounds like cotton wool.
Maths
Lesson 3 – Tenths on a place value grid
Watch the video and complete the lesson activity for this lesson (in your learning pack). When you have completed all questions on your worksheet and checked them twice you may use a coloured pen to check your answers.
Documentary Time
As our your timetable shows on Wednesdays we will be checking out an interesting documentary. This interesting documentary is about how different animals take responsibility to create their living habitats. As humans we may go to IKEA to help build the living environment we want but it is interesting to see the different things animals have to do to build theirs.
Newsround
Just as we have been in class make sure you still stay up to date with things that are happening around the world everyday.

Take care.

SWOP
Hi Y2! I’ve enjoyed seeing some of you (at a 2m distance) around the neighbourhood. Guess who I saw? One girl in y2 had a budgie on her head! Another y2 gal has been watching Lord of the Rings!
I’m well apart from missing you which is causing my words to swop at the end of my sentences. When you chat with your families, it might just happen to you as well.
Every sentence you say, change the last 2 words by swopping their first letters. Instead of saying, “She’s my little sister,” you would say, “She’s my sittle lister.” Instead of saying, “That was yummy pasta,” you would say, “That was pummy yasta.” Another one might be, “I should clean my messy room,” turning into, “I should clean my ressy moon.” Try it. It’s funny!
Love from Rhonda xx
