Cityscape instructions… Draw one anytime over the coming weeks!

Remember: The pink lines are the lines you add on each step.

1. Start With a Basic Outline

Sketch four horizontal lines below the center of the drawing area. Using a ruler, add a number of rectangles of different sizes, as shown, some overlapping others. These shapes are the front surfaces of the buildings. All vertical lines should be parallel

2. Add Dimension

Add a second side to each building to convey a sense of depth. Do this by drawing a vertical line shorter than the two lines for the front of the building.

3. Add Trees and Background

Sketch five trees in front of the middle buildings using squiggly half circles around the top railing. Evenly space pairs of vertical lines on the sides of some of the buildings, as shown.

Use diagonal lines on the sides of the two tall middle buildings to continue the bands. Draw a few more buildings in the background. Give the tall narrow building on the left a second side using parallel lines connected to the front with diagonal lines. Complete the roof using two triangles.

4. Add Architectural Details

Draw intersecting horizontal and vertical

lines on the sides of the buildings for windows. Sketch columns on the corners of the tall building at left using vertical lines with an inverted V shape on top.

5. Finish With Shading

Thicken the lines at the bottom of the tallest building and give them rounded tops. Put vertical lines between the bands of the tallest building. Darken the buildings at the back.

Place horizontal lines on the tall buildings at the right and left of the tallest building. Shade the sides of some buildings using diagonal lines. Add short, curved lines to the trees. Sketch curving lines in the foreground to make it look like a watery surface.

Busy things activities

Morning year 5,

I hope this massage finds you well.

I have been checking year 5’s activities and only 6 or 7 of you have done the last 4 activities. I have extended them for another day so more of the class is able to complete. For the children who have completed, you have plenty of work in your learning packs to complete also. Well done to all the children who have completed all activities so swiftly.

I will also look to put up the step by step cityscape images we used last term… Maybe you can see if you can make one on plain paper which will be a real challenge! Check your ruler is perfectly parallel with the vertical and horizontal edges of your paper.

Lot of love

Mr Roman

Good morning Year 5

Good morning Year 5,

I hope this message finds you well this Tuesday. I have just been checking your busy things work. Well done! Really loving some of your snowflake designs and most of you have completed the grammar work and history timeline which is good to see.

New activities will be uploaded on busy things in 10 minutes… I will leave each activity there for 2 days. If only a few children have completed one of them, I will re-activate it for another two days.

Please make sure you check the class page on the schools website for the link to the morning workout – It’s good to keep your bodies busy, in a controlled way. And remember to be mindful and respectful of other people in your house!

Take care and lots of love

Mr Roman x
