Year 2 – Thursday 7th May
Good morning Year 2!
Today’s blog is a little bit different so please make sure that you read it carefully.
Tomorrow is VE Day and that means three things.
- I won’t be blogging any lessons for you tomorrow as many people across the country are taking a day off from work to remember VE Day.
- You need to find some time for an extra Maths lesson before Monday (see below).
- Today’s activities are all about VE Day!
What is VE Day?
Before you do anything else today, have a look at this PowerPoint to find out what VE Day is all about. To give you some context – back in October and November we learnt all about World War 1. VE Day celebrated the end of World War 2 which happened about 20 years later.
Literacy
Today’s Literacy task is all about VE Day.
Maths
Today we are learning about non-unit fractions.
Find today’s maths sheet and get ready with a pencil. The video will tell you when to answer the questions on the sheet. To find the video, you need to go to this website:
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/
When you are there, you need to click on Week 2, Lesson 4 – Non-unit Fractions. It looks like this:
You’ll notice in your packs that there is also a lesson for tomorrow. To find that lesson, you need to go to Week 2, Lesson 5 – Equivalence of a half and two quarters. It looks like this:
It is completely up to you when you do that lesson. You might want to do it today, tomorrow or at some point over the weekend. Maybe you could do it instead of your handwriting/spelling time today. Find a time that works for you and your family. On Monday we will be moving on to the next lesson.
Other VE Day activities
Once you have done your Literacy and Maths today, you can spend the rest of the day doing some activities to remember and celebrate VE Day. I have put lots of ideas below. I’m not expecting you to have time to do all of them! Choose one or two that interest you most. You can print some of these at home but if you don’t have a printer, I’ve given other ideas, too.
Make a Spitfire (If you don’t have a printer, make your own paper aeroplane and decorate it to look like a Spitfire)
VE Day Bunting (If you don’t have a printer, you can just cut triangles out of any paper you have and decorate them.)
Colouring Page (If you don’t have a printer, draw your own picture of a VE Day street party.)
Songs, Dances and Food for a VE Day party at home
I hope you have lots of fun learning about VE Day today. Remember, you can take photos of what you do and send them to photos@allsoulsprimary.co.uk – I’d love to see them.
Have a great day and a great weekend. I’ll write to you again on Monday.
Love from Mrs Legg

Year 1 Week 3 Thursday
Good morning Year One!
VE Day Remembrance and Celebration
It’s a Bank Holiday tomorrow and as there will be no post tomorrow, our learning for today will be a bit different than usual.
Friday 8th May is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day is also known as Victory in Europe Day and marks the day towards the end of World War Two. To help remember the soldiers who fought and celebrate this milestone, we have put together a number of different activities.
If you can, please send in some photos of how you have chosen to celebrate VE Day. I would love to see what you have been doing!
But first of all a huge well done to Najah, Jessica, Calum, Jayjay, Hana, Cian, Leonor, Cassius and Faria for completing your activities on Busy Things.
Next week I would really like to see more of you commenting on our blog.
Your learning for today:

In Phonics https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ play phase 4
We will continue with our Pig the Pug sequencing next week and instead of that I would like you to have a go at some of the activities below: (you do not have to do all of them!!)…
