Hello Year 5, from your Year 6 teacher

Hello Year 5!

I hope you all read the newsletter, put on the website on Friday, which told you where the teachers will be next year and so it is no surprise that I, Mrs Legg, am blogging you today.  I’m really looking forward to moving into Year 6 with you.  Year 6 is a very exciting year.  As the oldest children in the school, you will be expected to set an example in your behaviour and your learning and you will be taking responsibility for various things around the school.  As it is your last year in primary school, we will be working very hard to make sure that you are secure in everything you have learnt at All Souls so that you are ready for secondary school.  We’ll be working hard but I hope we’ll have fun together, too – I’m particularly looking forward to doing the end of year show with you.

We’ll have more opportunities to get to know each other in September but there are two things I would like you to do today.  Firstly, I would like you to write a comment in the blog to introduce yourself.  Tell me what you think your greatest strength at school is and tell me what you are most worried about in Year 6.  I won’t publish these comments, so no-one else will see them, but I will read them myself.

Secondly, I have a Literacy activity for you to do.  I love reading and next year we are going to enjoy lots of different books together.  I would like to know what you enjoy reading and why you enjoy reading it.  Your Literacy activity for today, then, is this:

Write a book review about either your favourite book OR a book you have read recently.

You must include:

  • The title and author of the book
  • A summary of the plot – tell me the main things that happen in the story. If you choose to write about a non-fiction book, then tell some of the key pieces of information in it.
  • Why did you enjoy the book?
  • Who would you recommend this book to?
  • An illustration from the book. You can find one online, include a photo, or draw your own illustration.

You can do your book review as a blog post or email it to photos@allsoulsprimary.co.uk so that I can see it.

Remember: this is the first time I will see your writing, so make sure it shows you at your best.

Here’s an example where I share a bit about a book I have read recently: book review example

For the rest of the day, follow the home learning activities from Mr Roman.  He has asked me to tell you that your Maths activity is in Week 6 of your packs and it is Understanding Percentages.

The video is: https://vimeo.com/428001381

Have a great day, everyone.  I’m looking forward to reading your comments and blog posts.

RE w/b July 6th – Prayer Part 1

Hello everyone.

This week I am posting a short RE reflection for you.  Below is a video of a version of Psalm 23.  Psalms is a book in the Bible that contains songs and poems, most of them written by King David.  Remember the little shepherd boy, David, who defeated Goliath in last week’s story?  It’s the same David, only this time he is thinking about another shepherd..

Psalm 23 is perhaps one of the most famous Psalms.  At school at the moment, we have this Psalm up on our safety display and in our classrooms.  Watch the video of that Psalm and then think about why that might be.  How does this Psalm make you feel?

Good morning Year 2!  There’s lots of information today so please read this blog post carefully.

IMPORTANT AND EXCITING MESSAGE:

Today a letter will go up on the school website telling you who your teacher will be in Year 3.  Please do read it!  If you are unable to read the letter on the website, then download the school app (details on the website) and you can read it there, too.

On Monday, you won’t get a blog from me.  It will be from your new teacher.  I will blog you again on Tuesday.  I will put Monday’s Maths video and Literacy skills up today so that you have access to it on Monday.

RE w/b 29th June

Last week we listened to the story of Noah.  It is a story of God’s big rescue plan to save Noah and his family from the flood.

Today we are going to listen to another rescue story.  This time, it is the story of a young boy who God used to rescue his people in a battle.

Watch the story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0KUCQGqSZE

The young boy David grew up to be a king and he wrote Psalm 23, the prayer we are looking at in school and that we will look at on here another time.

What have you learnt about how God rescues people?  How does that make you feel?
