Day 12

Good morning Year 6,

Hope you are all up and ready to join in with the ‘Joe Wicks Workout’ this morning!

Well done to Aaron, Anna, Mischa, Jaber, Kapo, Aleena, Oliver and Arash for completing the Busy Things assignments I set for you yesterday.

Apologies about the ‘Macbeth’s Three Witches’ assignment – I understand there were a lot of issues with placing the correct words into the spaces.  Well done Karim and Aleena for noticing this issue – I will email Busy Things to let them know.

I have uploaded 2 Busy Things assignments which will be open until Sunday 5th April:

English – The Globe Theatre

Maths – Common multiples of 7 and 11.

As I have included an activity based on labelling Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, I thought you might like to take a virtual tour of the actual theatre…

https://www.shakespearesglobe.com/discover/about-us/virtual-tour/

A message from Mrs P:

Well done everyone for all your hard work at home for the last 2 weeks.  Today marks the end of the Spring term and it is now time for you to relax and spend time with your families for the next 2 weeks.

Over the Easter holiday, the teachers will be busy planning new paper work packs for you all, which will be delivered to you, at home, at some point over the first week after the Easter break.

In the meantime, please make sure you are checking your class bogs for any messages from your teacher.  During Week 1 of the Summer Term, the teachers will be setting you some new maths and Busy Things activities, and I will be setting you a creative writing challenge each day.

We are missing you all  and think about you every day.  Remember keep reading, keep moving and keep on being kind to your families.

Mrs Plesniak

A message from Mr Gonzalo:

Please check out my special Spanish blog page – ‘Spanish with Mr Gonzalo’.  I will write Spanish messages and set activities for you here.

Mr Gonzalo

I (Miss Cooley) will not be blogging every day over the Easter holiday, but will blog once a week to check in with you all.  I will, of course, keep checking your replies – if you need to contact me, you can still use this space.

I hope you all have a well deserved break from your learning.  Missing you all loads…

Miss Cooley xx

Day 11

Good morning Year 6,

I hope you are all well – it was lovely to catch up with your parents (and some of you) yesterday.  I have a few more phone calls to make with some of your parents today.  I will be phoning Hanifa, Mischa, Karim, Olivia, Kane, Jimi, Aaron and Azeem.

Well done to Anna, Aaron, AdyanJacob, Jimi, Kapo, Oliver, Mischa, Jaber, Arash, Aleena, Analey and Crystal for completing the Busy Things assignments I uploaded yesterday.  These assignments will be open until today, so there is still time to access them.

Today I have uploaded 2 Busy Things assignments:

English – Macbeth’s Three Witches.

Maths – Common multiples of 6, 9 and 12.

RE – I have included the link to Espresso Primary Faiths – today you can explore ‘Christianity’…

Miss Ascough has written a new blog, so make sure you read that too.

Please take care – I miss you all.

Day 10

Dear Year 6,

Are any of you going to do the Weekly Mile today?  I am possibly going to go for a run around my local park this afternoon.

It was so good to speak with some of your parents yesterday – I will be continuing my phone calls today – so if I have not been in touch with your parents yet, I will be soon.

I have uploaded 2 Busy Things assignments for you today – these will be kept open until tomorrow (2nd April):

English – Is it a noun?

Maths – Common multiples of 3, 4 and 8.

As we would normally have P.E. today, I suggest you either do the Joe Wicks workout at 9am, or try learning how to dance with the world renowned dance group ‘Diversity’!

Follow the link below for a free trial (only available until 1st May)…

https://20dv.co.uk/

A huge well done to these pupils for accessing Busy Things yesterday and completing the assignments:

Anna, Aaron, Jaber, Aleena, Jimi, Oliver and Mischa.

I know from speaking with some parents that most of you are still working through your paper packs – this is great but please try to login to the Year 6 blog on a daily basis, as important information about learning etc might get posted, and I would not want you to miss anything.

Have a great Wednesday – look forward to hearing from you.

Miss Cooley x

Day 9

Morning Year 6,

I cannot believe today marks the end of March!  I hope you are all well and almost finished with your home-learning packs – I am going to include links to the 2017, 2018 and 2019 Maths Reasoning Papers towards the end of this blog, as I know these were missing from your folders you have at home.  The sample 2016 and 2016 papers are not available to link but I can copy and paste the website for you to download them yourselves.

I have uploaded 2 Busy Things assignments today as you would normally have Spanish in the afternoon…

English – What is punctuation? (2).

Maths – Common multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

Mrs P has managed to get us the First News as a PDF version whilst we are learning from home.  I know how much some of you like reading this newspaper, so I have made a link on our school website to access this every Friday.  Here is the first one that I have uploaded…

https://www.allsoulsprimary.co.uk/children/first-news

As promised at the beginning of this blog, here are the links to the Maths Reasoning papers…

Well done to all of you who are accessing Busy Things and our Year 6 blog on a daily basis. I still have not heard from Abdullah, Lorenzo or Adyan.  If any of you are in contact with them, please let them know that I hope they are well, and that it would be nice to hear from them.

I will be catching up with all of your parents (via telephone) over this week, to see how you are all getting on.

Have a great Tuesday.

Day 8

Good morning Year 6.

I hope this blog finds you well, and that you all had a lovely weekend.

I had a bit of a lazy Sunday, which involved reading my book and baking an apple and orange cake.  What did you all get up to?  What book are you reading at the moment?  Remember to be reading for at least 30 minutes per day!

I  have uploaded 4 Busy Things assignments for you today:

English – What is punctuation? (1).

Maths – Calculating volume of 3D shapes.

Science – Digestive system.

Geography – Cocoa producing countries.

I know that Kapo does not have the ‘Adverb Arrow’ sheet in her pack – please do not worry if this is missing for all of you.  I tried to include a link to the sheet but as it is a PDF, it would not work.  I will see if I can post it as a picture tomorrow.

As today would normally be our day for Science, I thought you might like the Science Museum link I found (I know that Karim will definitely enjoy this).  Here you can explore the museum’s collection, complete brain-teasing puzzles or learn about science with a range of science games and apps…

https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/games-and-apps

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Day 7

Happy Friday Year 6!

Hope you are all well – I have just been out for a little 3 mile run before blogging you all.

I have uploaded 2 Busy Things assignments for you today:

English – What is an adverb?

Maths – Calculating perimeters of rectilinear shapes.  I am also including a link to the 2017 Maths Reasoning (Paper 2) test – I know this did not get photocopied because the photocopiers were under immense stress on that Wednesday!  You can download the test and answer as many questions on paper.  I will then post the answers on Monday for you to mark your own work…

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/614658/STA177737e_2017_key_stage_2_mathematics_paper_2_reasoning.pdf

Music (Charanga) – As it is Friday, Mrs Legg sent me a link for you all to continue with your singing whilst at home – Check out the ‘Fun Friday’ section – ‘The Bonkers Song’…

https://www.outoftheark.co.uk/ootam-at-home/?utm_source=homepage&utm_campaign=ootamathome2&utm_medium=banner

I have seen lots of you accessing the ‘Busy things’ page and many of you have blogged me. However, there are a few children I have not heard from.  Are any of you in contact with Kane, Abdullah, Aidan, Jez, Lorenzo, Jimi or Adyan?  Just wanting to make sure they are okay – if any of you are in contact with them, please ask them to respond to my blog.

Have a great Friday – I will keep checking this page over the weekend, so if any of you need to message me, I am here.

Day 6

Morning Year 6,

I hope you are all well.  I decided to make a banana cake yesterday with some overripe bananas I had in my flat.  Have any of you been baking?

I have uploaded 2 assignments on Busy Things today:

English – What is an adjective?

Maths – Calculating perimeters – Level 2.

R.E. – I am unable to upload any R.E. assignments for you on Busy Things, so I have found a really good website that allows you to explore different religions called ‘Espresso Primary – Faiths’.  Follow the link below to access the ‘Buddhism’ page – here you can watch videos, take part in some activities, find out information using the factfiles, print off resources (if you have a printer), look at images and read some books…

http://espresso.lgfl.org.uk/primary_uk_sa/sa_item663310_2/subject/module/frontscreen/item649020/grade2/index.html

Fancy visiting some penguins today?  I have found a link to ‘Penguin Beach’ situated in South Devon.  Here you can watch the penguins using the ‘penguin webcam’.

https://www.livingcoasts.org.uk/explore/penguin-webcam

You may have noticed that Miss Ascough is now blogging too.  Miss Ascough’s blog will appear on a weekly basis, and will include some reflection time activities for you to take part in.

Take care and be good!

Day 5

Morning Year 6,

Wishing we were all getting ready for our ‘Weekly Mile’ this morning – what a perfect day to run 6 times around the Square.  I may go for a run anyway and pretend that you are all running behind me!

I have uploaded 2 assignments for you today:

English – What are prepositions?

Maths – Calculating areas – Level 2.

Computing – I thought that you could have a go at a ‘Scratch’ activity, so follow this link for a tutorial on how to create a cartoon…

https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/331474033/editor?tutorial=code-cartoon

Have any of you created a rainbow picture and put it up in your window yet?  You could use paint, coloured pencils/pens/crayons, or even make a collage using coloured paper.

I know some of you are very keen on your politics, so thought you might like a look inside the Houses of Parliament today!  There are 14 rooms for you to explore – my favourite room is the ‘House of Commons Chamber’ because I really like the wooden gallery.  Which one is your favourite?  Follow this link to see inside…

https://www.parliament.uk/virtualtour

Missing you all.

Day 4

Morning Year 6,

I am hoping that some of you are taking part in the Joe Wicks P.E. workout as I blog.  If you are unsure how to access this, look at our class page for details.

You have 3 assignments on Busy Things today:

English – Proper and common nouns.

Maths – Are these shapes symmetrical?

Spanish (set by Mr Gonzalo) – Drinks (Spanish).

Fancy a virtual tour around the Natural History Museum?  You can explore the diplodocus to the dodo, botany to butterflies, giant crystals to specimens in jars.

Follow this link to take a look inside…

https://artsandculture.google.com/partner/natural-history-museum

If you want to be arty today, why not create a rainbow to put up in your window.  Children across the country are doing this to ‘spread hope’ during this difficult time.  Would be nice if you took pictures of these and I will look into a way that you can share these on our blog.

Hope you all have a great Tuesday.  I am missing all of you loads.

Day 3

Dear Year 6,

I hope you all had a good weekend and managed to get outside for a bit of fresh air.  I did a bit of gardening at home…it felt good to be in the sunshine.

English – Prefix or suffix?

Maths – Fractions to decimals.

Science – Circulatory system.

History – Tudor family tree.

I know many of you have read ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ by Anne Frank, so thought you might like to visit the museum of Anne Frank’s house online – follow this link to see inside…

https://www.annefrank.org/en/museum/web-and-digital/

I am in the process of adding extra information on the class pages of the school website. One of the links I shared is a P.E. lesson with Joe Wicks.  He will do a daily workout at 9am every weekday – follow this link to take part (you will need to press subscribe before you do the workout)…

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

Hope you all have a great Monday and I will catch up with you again tomorrow.
